Charles “Charlie” Miller
Charles Miller lived in Greensboro, NC.
He was a carpenter, who did additions, remodeled bathrooms and kitchens, especially bath & kitchen tile laying. Wade Holder said he was one of five NC players who drove up together with Clint Pickard, to Murfreesboro, Tennessee in July, 1978 to play the 3-Move National. Ray Brooks, Charlie Miller, Wade Holder, Clint Pickard, and Howard Amos had their picture made with Marion Tinsley who won the tournament, by winning 6 rounds, and drawing 2. World Champion Marion Tinsley of Tallahassee, FL won the 31st American Tourney and $1,500 first prize over a field of 163 entrants. Elbert Lowder, Sanford, NC was runner-up by winning 5 rounds, drawing 2, and losing one game to Tinsley (1978 - 31st 3-Move National). His second place prize was $850.00. This was the largest National Tournament to date in attendance and prize money. Charles won the 3-move Minors Division in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania Nationals in 1974.
